April Ross

April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball players who have earned medals at least twice in an Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and is set to join the team in Tokyo. But more than that, Ross is aiming to capture her first Olympic gold. At 39 and has a long way to go, this could be her final chance. But she's convinced that top honors are firmly in reach. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that when the team performs very well, or even at all, they can earn a gold. Therefore, I'm hoping to have a little bit of luck too. Ross, who was born 1982, and grew up in Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began participating in athletics at Newport Harbor High School. Apart from competing in various sports, Ross also attended Newport Harbor High School. She played basketball and ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball exploits as a pre-collegiate athlete. In her final game she stood out. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker outside hitter and setter in the court for volleyball as per her bio at the college. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her the National Player in 1999. Also, she won the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the Year trophy for volleyball. While Ross and Klineman have been doing their thing since the year 2017, Klineman had already been a major participant on the beaches long before their pairing. As a matter of fact Ross has won a number of significant tournaments during her time with two partners. One of them is a legend. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to 2013. Kessy and Ross were strong on the international circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 together. They were awarded a silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the trio to beat out for gold. Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate after Maytreanor's retirement. Both went on to win the bronze beach volleyball trophy at Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross was a Trojans player for the USC throughout her college the years prior to her professional career. Her time at USC was awe-inspiring. In 2000, she was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman Of The Year. She was also named an All-American. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans to make it to their first Final Four. The Trojans were devastated through a tragedy in her life during her second year, but she went on to be an All-American in her second year. Through her last two years within the team, she guided the Trojans towards the summit winning consecutive national championships. The individual accomplishments of her have established her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross was an international relations student at USC. Margie Ross did not get to witness Ross reach beach volleyball's highest stage. Margie, Ross's mother, passed away in 2001, when Ross was still in the midst of being a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. Her mother is still dear. Margie continues to be an inspiration on and off of the beach.
